Pittsburgh Steelers (0-0) @ Minnesota Vikings (0-0), 8 PM EST, NBC
It’s been 189 days since we last watched an NFL game. While preseason football primarily features future UPS drivers squaring off, our passionate (read: foolish) fan base in the AFC North will take it.
The Steelers continue to boast one of the league’s most potent offenses, returning their dynamic trio of Ben, Bell and Brown. What’s unknown, however, is how the defense will fare. Gone are longtime stalwarts like Troy, Ike, and The Beard. In are a bevy of young guys with potential, led by new defensive coordinator, Keith Butler.
The Vikings return Adrian Peterson, but second year quarterback, Teddy Bridgewater’s progression should be the main focus this preseason. The front office brought in a deep threat in Mike Wallace to help the young QB. The Vikings’ first three draft selections were on the defensive side of the ball, and their development under head coach Mike Zimmer will be interesting to watch.
The last meeting between these two teams came during the 2013 season, when the Vikings hosted the Steelers in London.
The Steelers will be celebrating Jerome Bettis’ induction into the Hall of Fame.
So, AFC North friends, grab a beer or ten and prepare some obscenely unhealthy snacks, because football is kind of, sort of, almost, somewhat unofficially back!
