Our Very Own Mock Draft – Rams Edition

Our Very Own Mock Draft – Rams Edition

The first pick for the AFC East was pretty convincing.  Jadeveon Clowney goes to the Houston Texans with 57% of the votes.  Surprising to some, Teddy Bridgewater came in second with 24% of the votes while Johnny Manziel and Blake Bortles each earned a couple votes.  The top pass rusher in the draft is now off the board, and St. Louis is on the clock thanks to their trade with Washington for Robert Griffin III in 2012.

For seven consecutive seasons, the St. Louis Rams have finished with a losing record.  Despite their inability to find success, they do have a lot of talented players on their roster and not many holes to fill.  Sam Bradford is recovering from an ACL tear, but the Rams appear to be set with him at QB.  Robert Quinn just celebrated a 19 sack season, James Laurinaitis mans the middle of the defense, and they have other solid defensive players in Alec Ogletree, Janoris Jenkins, and Chris Long.  The most obvious needs for the Rams are WR and S, followed by depth on the Offensive Line.

During each of the last 3 NFL Drafts, St. Louis has taken 2 WRs in the 4th round or higher.  This includes using the #8 overall selection on Tavon Austin last year who finished with a pedestrian 40 catches, 418 yards, and 4 TDs in 2013.  The Rams recent inability to draft and develop WRs makes the Ravens look good, and it should keep them in the market for the top WR in this draft.  Could they go for Sammy Watkins?  There are no safety prospects that should be taken with #2 pick, so their next best bet could be some of the top Offensive Lineman.  Jake Matthews?  Maybe Greg Robinson?  Or do they surprise everyone and take one of the top LBs or CBs?  You decide.
