Cleveland’s Newest Regime Seeks a Winning Culture

After a weekend of voting, the AFC East and AFC North are in agreement that Khalil Mack will be the 3rd overall pick for the Jacksonville Jaguars.  Now, on to a more familiar team in the Cleveland Browns.

The Browns have had a busy offseason.  Owner Jimmy Haslam fired his President and GM, hired Ray Farmer as the new GM, and hired former Bills and Jets defensive coordinator Mike Pettine as the new head coach.  At the start of free agency, the Browns signed Karlos Dansby to man the middle of their defense, and replaced TJ Ward with an older albeit harder-hitting saftey in Donte Whitner.  Cleveland also added cornerback Isaiah Trufant, running back Ben Tate, wide receiver Nate Burleson and they stole restricted free agent wide receiver Andrew Hawkins from Cincinnati.  Alex Mack also just got overpaid in Cleveland.  With many new players joining the rebuilding in Cleveland, there is still much to be done to create a competitive roster.

If the new regime is going to be successful, they absolutely must find success with the #4 overall pick.  Cleveland’s recent draft history has been filled with busts and has left the team with 5 or less wins in each of the past 6 seasons.  QB is the most obvious need as the team has only Brian Hoyer coming off of ACL surgery and Youtube star Alex “Trick Shot” Tanney on the roster.  Will Cleveland grab one of the draft’s top QBs at #4 overall, or will they gamble that a player like Derek Carr will fall to their second first round pick at #26?
