The Top Needs: Dolphin Edition
class="post-date-wrap left relative post-date-mob">

The 1st wave of Free Agency is over and the Dolphins addressed a big hole in their run defense by signing Suh. They also traded and cut away a bunch of bad contracts and improved their red zone abilities by signing Jordan Cameron who figures to give them some size in the red zone which they lacked last year. They still have some big needs which they will look to in the draft or trades/free agency. Top Needs are OG, CB, and WR

OG

Top Choices: Trade-Evan Mathis, Draft: Brandon Scherff, AJ Cann

Offensive guard is a big area of need for the Fins, especially left guard. The best choice would be to trade for Evan Mathis who has some familiarity with Lazor from 2013 and is someone the Eagles are really looking to trade. However if that doesn’t intrigue the Fins, they can always go into the draft.

The 1st two rounds there is two guys that would be ideal fits for the Fins. Scherff is the top OL in this draft and can play LT but most likely will kick inside to guard where he will be most effective. He’s a first round choice but if the Fins decide to go elsewhere first, AJ Cann is a good second round pick as he is solid in run and pass blocking and would be an easy fit to LG.

CB

Top Choices: Byron Jones,  Alex Carter, Ifo Ekpre-Olomu

Avoid: PJ Williams, Ronald Darby

With Finnegan gone, the #2 CB spot is an area that needs to be addressed. It isn’t a 1st round need and could potentially be something they can address in the 2nd or even trade back and handle in the 3rd. Ifo is the best of the bunch as he was potentially the #1 CB in this draft before a torn knee before the bowl game caused him to drop.  Alex Carter is solid in a lot of aspects but not great in any. Byron Jones is the most athletic and has had experience playing safety and corner which offers flexibility on defense.  Ifo is the best of the bunch but he is also a guy who might not be ready day 1.

WR

Top Choices: DeVante Parker, Dorial Green-Beckham, Breshad Perriman, Sammie Coates

Mike Wallace is gone and they replaced him with Kenny Stills who is the same production for a fraction of the cost. However what the Fins still lack is that true #1 WR who can go up and get it and help in the red zone. The best choice for the Fins is DeVante Parker who is tied with Amari Cooper and Kevin White as the best WR in this class. Parker has a nice blend of speed, size and physical ability and he is one of those guys who can win a jump ball. If they want to go for the most talented WR in this class but also the most troubling off the field, Dorial Green-Beckham is the guy. DGB is huge at 6’5 237 and in college he was nearly impossible to cover. His off the field issues might scare the Fins but if he has his head on right, could be best guy in this class.

The 2nd round also has two guys who have potential to be the #1 guy in Coates and Perriman. Both aren’t huge at 6’1 214 but they play big and also have world class speed. The biggest downside for both is inconsistent hands which means they might have a lot of highs and lows but their talent makes them intriguing choices.

Best Case: Trade for Mathis, Draft Parker in 1st, Byron Jones in 2nd.
