Offensive Guard – The Bills need to improve their O-line massively. In 2014 the Bills had one of the worst rushing attacks (25th) in the NFL with 2 RBs that have proven they can be in the top tier of RBs. The Bills need to make fixing the OL their top priority. Free Agent OG Mike Iupati may be the best scenario for the Bills. He worked with new OC Greg Roman in San Francisco and knows his system and is thought to be the top OL free agent prospect.
Tight End – The Bills need a pass threat TE that can stretch the field. Scott Chandler is a good red zone threat but is not a guy that can stretch the field, unless he can play New England every week. Marquise Gray showed some flashes in his brief stint with the Bills and could be a guy to watch in the future, but it still would be wise to find a TE in the draft or free agency. Notable TEs in free agency are Julius Thomas of the Broncos and Jordan Cameron of the Browns.
Running Back – Depending on what happens with soon to be free agent C.J. Spiller the Bills may be in the market for a RB. Between Fred Jackson, Boobie Dixon, and Bryce Brown the majority of the workload is spoken for. A premier guy is not needed so a middle round draft pick would probably be the best idea here.
Quarterback – Understandably a lot of people would have this as the number 1 need, but by all reports EJ Manuel will be the starter this year. Due to injury and being benched last year by a head coach trying to save his job, EJ has only started 14 games going into his 3rd This year he will most likely get a full season with new head coach Rex Ryan not worrying about job security. With Jeff Tuel being the only real backup QB on the team they will most likely look to add a veteran backup QB. Unfortunately it is a very very bad list of free agent QBs with names like Jake Locker and Mark Sanchez leading the way. It’s a who’s who of draft busts to pick from for the backup QB spot. As sad as it is Sanchez may be the best bet for the Bills backup spot.
Depth at DB – The Bills may need a starting Safety pending Da’Norris Searcy’s free agency decision, but Corey Graham could be the likely fit there and Aaron Williams will be the other starting Safety. Stephon Gilmore is a very good CB and Leaodis McKelvin had his best year under a similar defense as Rex Ryan will bring in. Guys like Nickell Robey and Bacari Rambo both showed promise with limited snaps and seem to be good depth guys, but the Bills could use a couple more DBs.
Depth at LB – The Bills will possibly lose run stopper Brandon Spikes, but are getting back rookie phenom Kiko Alonso. With Nigel Bradham and Preston Brown both having great years and Alonso coming back the LB corps looks to be set for years to come. They will still need some depth and it might be smart to bring back Spikes for the right price or find a mid tier free agent or low round draft pick.
