It changed when the Bills added Brandon Spikes. It was hard to get excited about the signings of Chris Williams and Keith Rivers, a pair of former first round draft picks about to play for their third NFL team. I liked the addition of Corey Graham but it still wasn’t worthy of a text to your buddy saying “Hey! Guess who the Bills just signed?”
Spikes has been the best player out of the group, fills a need on the Bills defense, should make the biggest impact out of the four and should certainly be motivated after signing just a one year deal.
New general manager Dennis Hickey and theMiami Dolphins have been very active this offseason as they entered free agency with around $35 million to spend. While the free agency period didn’t start until Tuesday March 11, the Dolphins started to adjust their roster with the re-signing of cornerbackBrent Grimes and the signing of former Detroit Lions safety Louis Delmas.
Ok, so we add Revis and Browner, (Reaction: “Yay, our defense just got better!), but then we lose Spikes and most likely Wilfork. Do you feel like we took two steps forward and then two steps backwards, or more even? We lose a great run-stopper in Spikes and one of the greatest NT’s in the league. Do you see the Patriots filling these gaps in free agency or the draft?
On Monday and Tuesday, the Jets added no one new, but they’re reportedly interested in several free agents, and the most prominent player they coveted chose to accept another deal from some other team just up the road in East Rutherford. Depending on which Jets fan you talk to, the last of those developments is either a sign of organizational incompetence or just the latest indicator that general manager John Idzik has a plan and he’s doggedly sticking to it.
